The Power of Prayer

Using Bible Scriptures

Do you know the power of prayer using bible scriptures?  Let me explain.  I began praying bible scriptures in 2002 when I needed God to turn my marriage around.  My husband said he felt hurt, used, and disappointed by me.  He told me he didn't love me anymore and uttered these words, "I want a divorce".  I was not prepared to hear those four words because we'd only been married one year.  I was surprised, afraid, and very confused.  After the initial shock wore off, I said there is no way I'm going to let my marriage fail.  I took hold of the good holy bible and located every scripture I could on marriage and being a wife.  I began to pray the scriptures I found over my marriage by replacing words in the scripture with me, my husband, us and so on.  The prayers turned into confessions that I would decree daily.  I began to emulate what the bible said a wife should be.  Within a year the Lord not only changed me, but my husband as well.  God answered my prayers and restored my crumbling marriage.  My husband forgave me, told me he loved me and wanted to work on the marriage.  August 2012 made 11 years of marriage for us.  Today we have a wonderful (not perfect) marriage and three beautiful children.  I'm thankful and grateful to God for answering my prayers.  Of course that was the short version of my story.  I can't even begin to tell you how painful and difficult that season of my life was.  One day I promise to share the full story.

The power of prayer is when God intervenes and changes you, your situation or the circumstances you've been praying about.  Luke 18:1 says, "Then Jesus told the disciples a parable to show them they should always pray and not give up".   Jesus wants us to pray no matter how great or how small the request is.  I didn't know if God was going to answer my prayer or not, but I'm glad I was persistent and didn't give up.

I know this sounds so cliche but prayer really does change things.  Hebrews 4:12 says, "For the word (scriptures) of God is living and active".  Isn't it amazing how the scriptures you pray can accomplish what you decree?  God is a powerful living being.  When you speak and believe in bible scriptures, you activate faith which pleases God and causes Him to move in your situation.  It may not always go the way you thought it would go but a shift will take place.  We have to remember, the bible is not  a magic book that will give us anything we want.  We can't pray bible scriptures or even say regular prayers and see results if our heart, motive, and attitude is not right.  James 4:2-3 says, "You don't have what you want because you don't ask God for it.  And even when you ask, you don't get it because your motives are all wrong-you want only what will give you pleasure".  Is God going to receive glory out of your prayer request?  Is anything good going to come out of this prayer request?  Are you the only one that will be blessed by the request or will others be blessed too?  Those questions are really what answered prayed boils down to.  God wants us to be happy, blessed, and living a fulfilled life, but according to his will.  If what we are asking God for does not bring him glory or fulfill a meaningful purpose in this earth, he may not answer that prayer.  God is moved by a pure heart, loving motives and a right attitude.

Sometimes prayers are answered quickly and sometimes they're not.  Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, "There's a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven".  Notice the word time.  Lol!!  The power of prayer is being patient and allowing the "Living Word" to be accomplished in it's due season.  Many times we hinder our prayers by taking matters into our own hands, which complicates things even more.  If the scripture you are praying or confessing requires action, do it!  If God prompts you to do something, by all means do it!  Otherwise, be patient and trust God.

Blessings,
Tytenisha

  1. Hey Ty, I absolutely loved the blog today. It was just want I needed to read especially about prayer and not to give up. I feel the same way to about certain things that I am praying for in my life. I loved what you said about G-ds timing . I once heard that G-d's time is always on time although I do think he is very very slow sometimes! ( Just kidding)

I also liked what you said about the intentions that are behind the prayer. Is this prayer only for me? Or will others and will G-ds will be done? Very helpful I pray that I may practice these principals when I pray to G-d and trust in the holy ones wisdom and knowledge if they don't get answered the way I want.
If I am open it may be something better. Great article . I am a witness to what a beautiful marriage and family you have. May G-d continue to bless you and your family. Hadassah

  3. As someone who often feels forgotten about, I take comfort in knowing that the power of prayer is real. Most days are better than others, but I think about if I did not know God how much worse off I would be. Thank you for the reminder Ty and most of all for being such an awesome example. Love you!!!!

  4. Hi Kimmy! Yes, I think many of us have felt forgotten about, especially when we are waiting on God to move and nothing seems to be happening. He is moving even though we can't see it. He's positioning people that will help in our prayers being answered and that takes time when your dealing with people lol!! Keep holding on to faith and trusting God that what you are waiting for will be worth it in the end. Luv u too!
